Loving Acceptance of Yourself

DAY 2 – SENSING + EATING

[accessally_course_navigation prev_button=’Previous’ next_button=’Next’]

The topic for today is around Sensing + Eating.

Sensing enables us to navigate our external and internal environments and heightens our situational awareness through the experience of sight, touch, sound, odor and taste, and our internal sensory capacity. Eating fresh, whole foods in moderation is a primary means of nourishing ourselves and providing energy to support optimal living and performance.

BELOW YOU WILL FIND THE SELF-CARE PRACTICES. I INVITE YOU TO EXPLORE THESE. FEEL FREE TO SHARE YOUR INSIGHTS INSIDE THE FACEBOOK GROUP

USING YOUR SENSES TO SUPPORT YOUR WELLNESS JOURNEY
Our senses play an important role in maintaining our sense of personal wellbeing. One of the simplest ways to promote our wellness is developing simple strategies to include activities that positively engage our senses.
Practices
Try some of the following strategies to maximize the involvement of your senses in your everyday life:
  • Surround yourself with beauty in your home or office – flowers, music, candles, essential oils (aromatherapy), inspiring art.
  • Play music that inspires or touches your soul in the early morning as you are preparing for your day. Or, play some relaxing music an hour before going to sleep. This can become a ritual that you really look forward to.
  • Flowers: Have some fresh-cut flowers to maintain a sense of beauty in your home.
  • Furry Friends: Spend time petting or holding your favorite animal companion. Anyone who has a cat or a dog knows how soothing it is to pet your animal, have him rub up against you, and sleep next to you on your bed.
  • Self-Massage: Learn some self-massage techniques. See Sensing Resource Center (Hands, feet, ears)
  • Foot Rub: Rub your feet at night with a soothing essential oil such as lavender or chamomile.
  • Home Spa: Take a hot bath in the evening by candlelight, soaking with mineral salts or essential oils, listening to music that relaxes or inspires you, and maybe even have a treat with a piece of your favorite chocolate.
  • Spend Time in Nature: The full sensory engagement of being in nature is very revitalizing. Whether we are taking a walk in the forest, hiking in the mountains or a national park, taking a slow walk on the beach, kayaking on a river or lake, or camping, we are enveloped by the sights, sounds, and smells of nature, which seems to re-energize us and put everything into perspective.

SITTING DOWN TO EAT
Try sitting down whenever you have a meal or are eating a snack this week. See if you can catch yourself when you are starting to “eat on the run”. Stop and take the time to sit down.
  • Breathe for 20-30 seconds (or longer) before you take your first bite.
  • What do you notice when you do this?
  • Do you experience resistance?
  • Does it change your experience of eating?
